Nile Difae is a 2D Tower defense game wherein you have to defend the pyramid from the waves of enemies coming in from the river Nile.

Intentions:

The constraint provided to us by our head was the game should be based around the theme of Egypt. We decided to bring in the enemies from the Nile and place towers around it to defend the Nile. Since this was the first big project to be worked on, a lot of elements we decided were ambitious. Stencyl being a totally new engine, it was a difficult task to understand it at first but once I got a grasp, it was quite easy to implement the design aspects into it.

Achievables:

Being a programmer as well, I played the role of the designer only in the pre-production phase in conceptualizing the idea. A lot of experimentation was done with Stencyl in order to first understand the engine and its limitations. All the elements of the game were executed in the engine, but very poorly since this was the first big project that was worked upon. During the polishing the stage, all the elements were improved upon a little but also due to the engine limitations we could not do much.

Learning outcomes:

Being the first big long project to be worked on, Nile Difae taught me a lot of things about design as well as programming aspect for developing a project. How to work in a team and coordinate with artists and designers, how to turn design ideas into digital ones and how to work on a project from start to finish and following a timeline was one of the few important things that were learned in this project.
